Advice to Political Journalists

Love your interviews with politicians - great suits! But I feel like there’s this super helpful follow-up question you have in your back pockets, and none of you guys use it! Maybe you’re shy? Or you’re just excited to get onto your next question because you had it written down on your pad? In any case, you should totally break it out this campaign season, it would be so informative. You know the one, it goes like this:

“Wait a second - what you just said was an almost comically random combination of words and phrases that amounted to no coherent meaning whatsoever. Care to clarify?”

Think of all the applications! I know it’s probably asking too much, but I hope I get to see this classic and oft-neglected technique in action a few times during the coming year.
